Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as a form of glucose intolerance first recognized during pregnancy. It applies whether diet alone or insulin treatment is required, and whether the condition disappears after delivery or continues.

Gestational diabetes affects how the body processes blood sugar during pregnancy. It occurs when hormonal changes interfere with insulin regulation, leading to elevated glucose levels that can impact both maternal and fetal health. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important to minimize risks.

Medical nutrition therapy and GDM

One area of growing interest in GDM management is medical nutrition therapy (MNT). This approach involves using targeted nutritional strategies to help stabilize blood sugar levels, often before medication is needed. At Indevex, we have developed the Preload® Balance method as part of this therapeutic model. The method involves consuming specific nutrients before meals to prepare the body for the incoming rise in blood sugar. It works by promoting the early release of key hormones, including GLP-1, which supports insulin regulation and enhances satiety. This may lead to improved post-meal glucose control and potentially reduce the need for pharmacological intervention.
